Gateway's New Affordable Housing Building in Niagara Falls

NIAGARA REGION, November 4, 2016 - The Board of Directors of Gateway Residential and Community Support Services of Niagara (Gateway) and Niagara Regional Housing were joined by Joe Roberts from "Push for Change" to celebrate the opening of Gateway's new affordable housing building, Berard Place.

Berard Place was built in partnership with LEAP Properties and brings nine new units of safe, permanent, affordable rental housing to the downtown core of Niagara Falls at 4750 Huron Street.

"This remarkable project will directly help people and uplift the entire community", said Gateway Executive Director John Osczypko, "It is a giant step towards our goal of improving the diversity and affordability of housing in our community."

Gateway provides safe, affordable housing throughout the Niagara region in combination with flexible, on-site, mental health support services for residents that are living with a serious mental illness. At Berard Place, tenants will have access to onsite supports designed to help them engage in meaningful, productive activities and live independently in their own community.

"Increasing the availability of affordable housing through new development is a high priority in Niagara and we congratulate the Board of Directors and staff of Gateway on the opening of this new building," said NRH Interim CEO Donna Woiceshyn, "There is no doubt that Berard Place will make a positive difference in the lives of the individuals who will live there and contribute to their community."

NRH administers affordable housing on behalf of Niagara Region.

This is Gateway's fifth supportive, affordable housing building in Niagara and their first in Niagara Falls.
