As Chair of the Niagara Regional Housing (NRH) Board of Directors, I am pleased to present this year's Annual Report video, which highlights NRH's achievements in 2021. The Board is extremely proud of how NRH managed to provide services to low-income communities, despite the ongoing global pandemic and organizational restructuring. We were able to apply the hard lessons from 2020 so that we could continue to build, service, support and partner effectively throughout rapidly changing circumstances.
As you will see in the video below, NRH modified processes and worked creatively to ensure that we did not let the residents of Niagara down during a time of increased vulnerability. In addition to unit maintenance, capital work and supports and programs for tenants in need, we managed to build 73 new units of Public Housing in Niagara Falls and started on a 43 unit project in Welland. All of this was accomplished not just within the context of the pandemic, but also during NRH's integration into Niagara Region Community Services.
Our ability to overcome the struggles of 2021 made us more confident than ever that we can meet future challenges and are well-equipped to deliver on our mission to "provide and develop quality affordable housing opportunities for individuals and families while promoting self-sufficiency and neighbourhood revitalization". On behalf of the Board, I would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to staff and partners on the hard work and dedication it took to make 2021 a success. Enjoy the video!
Sincerely,
Gary Zalepa | NRH Chair
